The least changed of the themed areas, Adventureland, is dominated by a "Jungle Cruise" that combines sights from the Nile, Amazon, Ganges, and Irrawady Rivers. Audio-animatronic elephants, gorillas and crocodiles spray water, grunt and bare their teeth among real and manmade foliage.
Disney's iconic and colorful "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" stands guard over his interpretations of childhood classics. Sail in flying pirate ships to "Peter Pan's Neverland," whirl around in giant teacups at the "Mad Tea Party" from "Alice in Wonderland" and flee from the evil witch in miniature dwarf cottages with "Snow White's Scary Adventure."
Frontierland's tribute to the Wild West ranges from a sedate cruise on the stately paddle wheeler of "Mark Twain's Riverboat" to the roller-coaster thrills of "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad." The nearby Critter Country features "Splash Mountain," a log flume ride through the characters and scenes from Disney's 1946 "Song of the South." You leisurely rise 52 feet before plummeting into a backwoods bayou.
From the entrance, the first theme you encounter evokes turn-of-the-century, small-town America complete with a town square, firehouse, and horse-drawn trolleys. Using forced perspective to make them appear bigger, the Victorian buildings start at ¾ scale on the first floor and shrink to ½ scale on the third.
Inspired by the animated environment of the 1988 film, "Who Framed Roger Robert," this child-sized land marks the official residence of Disney cartoon characters such as Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey, who is the mayor. Pulling knobs, flipping switches, and opening doors both in and outside the cartoon houses produces funny sounds and wacky effects.
This theme duplicates the charming architecture and elaborate grillwork of New Orlean's French Quarter, while providing two of Disneyland's most popular attractions: "Haunted Mansion" guides you through the ghosts and goblins in "Doom Buggies" while "Pirates of the Caribbean" puts you among the cannon blasts and sword fights of an 1800s pirate invasion.
New Tomorrowland wows visitors with futuristic inventions at the "Innoventions Dream Home" and the quirky bipedal Asimo robot. Dive into a cartoon undersea kingdom in a "Submarine Voyage" or orbit a planet in the rockets of the "Astro Orbiter." Kids can try their hand at adult freeway traffic congestion with the miniature cars of Autopia.
