Practice. Find a local indoor rock climbing facility and get a feel for climbing a rock wall.
Attend a class or lesson. In most areas with mountain climbing available, you can find classes or lessons. If all else fails, there are classes you can take online (see Resources below).
Choose a location. There are thousands of mountains and cliffs for you to climb. Ask around at the lesson you attend for likely places that will be an easy first climb.
Find a guide. Guides will be able to show you places that are not too difficult for a beginning mountain climber.
Buy the gear. This includes the ropes, packs, runners and draws, hangers and footwear.
Climb with a friend or in a group. You should never climb alone, particularly when you are a beginner.
Enjoy the experience! Mountain climbing can be one of the most exciting activities in the world.
