The best way to view and discover New York City is on foot. It is by far the cheapest mode of transportation and sometimes even the fastest. Manhattan's streets in uptown/downtown form a grid system that makes it very easy to get around. The best way to discover all the boroughs in New York City is definitely by foot. You will see more locals this way also. You can go from Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and catch the wonderful sites of the Upper East Side, or get lost in Time Square.
