Cheap Hotels With a Kitchen in Nags Head, North Carolina

Nags Head cannot settle on the origin of its own name. Visited by European colonists as early as the 1500s, the area, now known as Nags Head, in the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina, has hosted pirates, fishermen and of late, hordes of tourists. Rich with colonial and modern history (think Roanoke Colony and the Wright Brothers), the area abounds in family-friendly entertainment and activities. A number of hotels in Nags Head have guest rooms with kitchens.
  1. Rodeway Inn

    • Only 500 feet from both the dunes of the Atlantic side and the shops of the Tanger Outlet Center (which includes outlets from Coach, the Gap and Merrell), a number of the Rodeway Inn's 29 rooms have kitchen facilities. While all rooms have a microwave and refrigerator, you must specifically request a kitchen room when making your reservation. The Rodeway Inn is a fairly standard franchise motel with a prime location. Just north of the entrance to Cape Hatteras National Park, the Rodeway Inn is within walking distance to both Kitty Hawk Watersports, where you can rent kayaks, surfboards or jet-skis (and take lessons on how to use them, if needed) and Nags Head Golf Links, a waterside 18-hole course designed by Bob Moore. Reservations can be made up to 51 weeks in advance. Kitchen rooms in fall 2010 start as low as $79 per night.

    Owens' Motel

    • Steps from the surf and sand, the family-owned-and-operated Owens' Motel offers a number of different room styles for rent; however, only the apartment and efficiencies come equipped with kitchens. The efficiencies come in configurations that sleep either two or four people. The apartment sleeps four in two double beds, but access to a second bedroom is sometimes available. Kitchens are fully furnished with utensils and cookware, but if the outdoor mood strikes, oceanfront picnic and barbecue areas are a short walk away. Catch your own dinner with help from the nearby Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, where you can fish with a charter captain or purchase your own bait and try your luck from the pier. If this sounds like too much work for a vacation, try the Carolina shrimp and grits, a local favorite, at Owens' Restaurant across the street. Off-season rates in fall 2010 begin as low as $58 per night.

    Bodie Island Resort

    • Close to some of the East Coast's best surfing, the oceanfront Bodie Island Resort offers recently remodeled condominiums with kitchens and upgraded appliances. All of the units have ocean views and sleep 4 to 6 people. Many of the units with kitchens also have washer/dryers. A grocery shopping and delivery service is available through the resort if you'd like to have your kitchen stocked before arrival. The resort's private beach access can get you to the dunes for a picnic, or grill out on the property in one of the barbecue areas. The Bodie Island Resort can help you enjoy your trip a little more with their babysitting services, catered meals and charter fishing trips. The resort's year-end rate specials can get you into a room for as little as $86 per night in fall of 2010.

    Oasis Suites

    • Situated dockside on the Nags Head Causeway, the Oasis Suites is an all-suite hotel, all with full kitchens. The three suite styles, family, executive or honeymoon, all sleep 4 to 6 people and have views of Roanoke Sound and Sugar Creek. Families with a interest in angling will appreciate the Oasis Suites' fishing, crabbing and boating facilities, including dockside tie-up and a fish-cleaning area. After a day with the rod and reel, you can relax in the jetted spa tub featured in all the hotel's suites. Off-season rates in fall 2010 start around $150.
