The Business, or F Visa, is granted to an individual who is invited to China for business purposes. In this sense, business can be an investigation, scientific-technological and cultural exchanges, a lecture, short-term advanced studies, an internship, and of course, for profit.
U.S. citizens can choose to apply for a Single Entry, Double Entry or a Multiple Entry "F" Visa. Single Entry Visas are good for three to six months; Double Entry Visas are valid for six months; and Multiple Entry "F" Visas are available for six months or 12 months. U.S. citizens may also apply to hold a Multiple Entry "F" Visa for 24 months if they prove they have previously received an F Visa at least twice. They must also show proof of investments in China or collaboration with a Chinese company for a contract or a business license.
To apply for the Business Visa, you must have six months of validity left on your passport, the visa application, an empty passport page, all applicable fees and one 2x2 passport-sized photo. Applications must be made in person at the nearest consulate or embassy. If you cannot visit the office in person, then you are allowed to send someone to turn in your application materials.
Processing time for the Business Visa is typically four business days. It can be expedited for a fee of $20 (fees current as of October 2009). Same-day rush service for business emergencies can be processed for a fee of $30.
Fees are based on the applicant's country of citizenship. Additionally, the government of China reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone, and as such, does not permit anyone suffering from a mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases to enter.
