The Ghan takes tourists from Adelaide in South Australia to Alice Springs, home of the outback's most famous attraction, Uluru (Ayers Rock) and then on to Darwin in the Northern Territories. The 1,800-mile trip takes two nights to accomplish.
Travelers can choose from three levels of service on the Ghan--Red, Gold or Platinum. The Red service includes armchairs that convert into berths, while Gold service offers larger three-seater lounges that also convert into berths. The Platinum service includes a private twin share sleeper cabin with a private bathroom. Meals are included with the Gold and Platinum services and a diner is available for passengers traveling on Red service carriages.
