European Travel Tours for Teenagers

Teenage travelers are drawn to Europe's many cultures, languages, cuisine, art and history, its relatively small size and the ease of travel between nations. Backpacking remains a popular way for teens to travel the European continent, but a selection of teen-specific organized tours are available that can provide a more targeted approach.

    • Bold Earth Adventures specializes in teen summer travel camps and tours around the world. The program was founded in 1976 and aims to guardianship, developmental experiences and worthwhile summer activities for teenage travelers. Bold Earth offers six unique European multiweek travel packages including England, Italy and Greece, Bike Amsterdam to Paris, Spain Language Adventure, Switzerland and Italy and France, and the overall Europe Adventure. Tours include accommodations, all activities, transportation during the trip, travel insurance, meals, laundry and all necessary equipment. Airfare to and from the tour and personal insurance are not included but are available. Teens must apply for tour travel and will be asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm and mind-set to show compatibility with the tour and its participants. On the tour, you can expect groups of up to 16 travelers maximum with two to three adult guides present at all times.

    • Academic Treks provides educational summer camp experiences for teenage students in Europe and around the world. The French Language Immersion tour is a 26-day exploration of the country blended with French language training, testing and immersion with a local family. The itinerary includes stays in Paris, Chamonix, Amboise and the Atlantic coastal region, cultural excursions, local cuisine workshops, chateau and museum visits, hiking treks and 10 hours of community service. The tour has a three-credit value through Lesley University. The French Language Immersion tour is open to high school students inn grades 10-12 with one year of French study. Rates for a 26-day French Language Immersion tour start around $6,280 per student and include all meals, accommodations, transportation and entry fees as of March 2011.

    • West Coast Connection Active Teen Tours offers a full line of tours, adventures and custom trips for teenage travelers throughout Europe and destinations around the world. Tours are divided into five categories; teen tours, per-college enrichment, global adventures, language programs and On Tour selections. Trips range in length from 14 to 30 days and include all accommodations in hotels or resorts, luxury coach transportation during the tour, daily breakfast and dinner, recreation, entertainment, tips and taxes. Airfare to and from, lunches and optional expenses are not included. The standout 28-day On Tour European Experience features stops in London, Paris, Annecy, Zermatt, Venice, Italy's Adriatic Coast, Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Florence, Pisa and Nice with authentic experiences and educational visits in each location. Summer rates start around $7,999 per person as of March 2011.

    Teen Treks Biking Trips

    • Teen Treks Biking Trips offers a series of bicycle adventure trips to locations throughout North America and Europe for travelers ages 12 to 18. The European Phantom Trek journeys from London to Paris, through northern France, Belgium, Holland and back to London over a four-week period. Highlights of the tour include museum visits in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Giverny, and stops in Bruges, Ghent, Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, Cambridge and Versailles. The tour is open to high school students grades 10 to 12 who are capable of moderate physical exertion. Rates for the tour start around $5,095 per person as of March 2011 and include accommodations at hotels or hostels, trip leaders and guides, meals, snacks, transportation, all activities and camping equipment if applicable. Travelers must have their own touring or hybrid bicycle.
