Camping Grounds in the Green Mountain Reservoir, Colorado

The Green Mountain Reservoir Recreation Area in Colorado is under supervision of the United States Forest Service. Visitors are allowed to boat, fish, water-ski and jet-ski during the warmer seasons and ice fish during the winter season. In addition, visitors can enjoy camping, hiking and hunting. Cataract Lake and Falls is a lake area that contains beautiful waterfalls; however, no motorized vehicles are allowed in this area and safety warnings about hiking are posted. Nightly fees or season passes are available for campers.
  1. Prairie Point

    • No reservations are needed to camp at this campground. The fee is $10 a night with a 14 day stay limit. Each campsite is allowed a maximum of 10 people and 2 vehicles. Each campsite has picnic tables and metal fire rings for cooking. There is no running water, so campers will have to bring their own water; however, outhouse facilities are available.

    Cow Creek North and South

    • Cow Creek South is a marked and numbered campsite that is located on the northeast side of Cataract Lake. Reservations can be placed through the Forest Service reservation website. Dumpsters, outhouses and metal fire rings are at each campsite. Cow Creek North is located north of Cow Creek South. There is a beach area where swimming is allowed; however, camping is restricted to the areas outside of the beach. Dumpsters, outhouses and metal fire rings are in place at each site. Campers must provide their own drinking water at each campsite.

    Elliot Creek

    • No reservations are needed to camp here; however, it is a popular fishing campsite, so all of the campsites are on a first-come, first-served basis. The camping fee is $10 a night with a 14 day limit stay. Campers have to provide their own drinking water. Fishing from the shoreline is allowed, and dumpsters and outhouses are provided.

    Cataract Lake and Falls Area

    • This is a popular spot because of the hiking trails and fishing holes. No reservations are needed and it costs $10 a night to camp plus $5 a night for parking. Drinking water, fire-grates, trash disposal and picnic tables are available at each campsite.
