Camping and Fishing in Brazos River, Texas

The Brazos River spans around 840 miles and is the longest river in Texas. It flows through most geographic regions of the Lone Star State, and it has three upper forks--double mountain, salt fork and clear fork. Many campgrounds offer fishing and recreational activities, such as canoeing, on the Brazos as well.
  1. Brazos Bend State Park

    • This state park is located approximately 28 miles southwest of Houston, Texas, and it covers about 5,000 acres. The camping facilities have water and electricity, restrooms with showers, screened shelters, equestrian sites, dining hall, barbecue pit, three separate picnic areas and group picnic pavilions. The state park features 35 miles of hiking and biking trails, a gift shop, and alligator-viewing opportunities. There are six easily accessible lakes for fishermen, as well as three fishing piers located at the Elm, Hale and 40-Acre lakes. The park also features a nature center with hands-on alligator display, freshwater aquarium, live native snake displays and observatory with stargazing.

    Camp N' Fish

    • Located just outside Glen Rose, Texas, the Camp 'N' Fish park overlooks the Brazos River. It features shaded pecan campgrounds for tents and small RVs. The camp has restrooms with showers and toilets; primitive campsites with tables and grills; and RV campsites with water and 20- to 30-amp electricity hookups. Area activities include canoeing, swimming, wading and fishing. Fishing at the park requires a fishing license, and bank and river fishing are available.

    BacKside Steakhouse and RV Park

    • This private club and RV park is located on the Brazos River just 15 minutes from Graham, Texas. The pecan-shaded campground features 85 pull-through RV hookups with 20-, 30- and -mp plugs, as well as tent camping sites. Area activities include fishing, billiards, recreation room, hiking and biking, bird watching and dancing. There is a meeting room available, and large groups are welcome.

    Lake Mineral Wells State Park

    • This 3,200-acre state park is located east of Mineral Wells and is situated along the Rock Creek, a large tributary of the Brazos River. The campground facilities feature restrooms with showers, backpack campsites, campsites with water and electricity, screened shelters, park store, amphitheater, boat ramp and fishing piers. It also has picnic sites with water faucets, lake access, tables and grills. Area activities include horseback riding, bicycling, hiking and boating.

    Brazos River RV Park

    • Situated in central Texas near Waco, the Brazos River RV Park is conveniently located between Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth. It is located on the banks of the Brazos and features a spacious clubhouse, more than 40 RV hookups with water, electric and sewer, a fishing tank, barbecue pit, group pavilion and tent sites. Nearby recreational activities include hiking, whitewater paddling, swimming and biking.
