Determine when you'll be dancing. Figure out when you're going out on the town. This will help you look at special events going on during the time you'll be in the Windy City moving to tropical beats. Choose several dates as there are almost always special events every weekend.
Check club listings and make calls. Search engines and special nightlife websites such as www.v5online.com can provide you with great information about Chicago's dance clubs. Look up clubs and feel free to call them about their upcoming events and promotions.
Determine transportation. Many clubs downtown have valet parking or are located near parking lot areas; and Chicago offers an almost endless stream of taxis and cabs. Determine how you want to move around based on how much you can spend and whether you'll be drinking. Trying to find street parking will be nearly impossible.
Dress appropriately. Going back to step 2, knowing your club will let you know what the dress code is and isn't. Dress to impress but dress for comfort and keep in mind that you plan to be on your feet for hours. Have shoes that you'll feel good in as the beats keep dropping, and you're spinning to salsa and meringue.
Have enough money. Salsa dancing in Chicago can eat up money in cover charges, parking and drinks. Once again, know as much as you can about your club, and you can find out if there are any free cover times, drink specials and parking fees/taxi costs. Have an extra $50 if possible, just in case.
Dance. Dance as long as you can and enjoy yourself. You'll be surprised how much networking is done in salsa clubs, how many new friends are made and new loves are found. Have a great time, and it will be contagious, coming in full circle back at you.
