How to Pay your Congestion Charge by SMS

In London, when a chargeable vehicle enters across the congestion zone there is a fee payable of £8 per day. As well as paying online, by post and at certain shops, you also can pay your congestion charge by SMS.

      Register to pay your congestion charge by SMS. The first step is registering with Transport for London's Fast Track service. To do this go to their website at www.cclondon.com or you can also register by telephone on 0845 900 1234 and request to open a Fast Track account.

      When registering for the Fast Track account you will need to provide personal information such as your name, address and vehicle registration number, you can also give details of your credit or debit cards with which you wish to pay the charge. If you wish to pay your congestion charge by SMS you will also need to give your mobile phone number.

      Check your mobile. After you have registered for the Fast Track service a token will be sent to your mobile, follow the instructions given in the message and then forward the message to number 81099 from your mobile phone. You are then all set to pay your congestion charge by SMS.

      Optional vehicles registration. When you first sign up to register with the Fast Track service there is an optional process that allows for payment on additional vehicles other than the primary vehicle you have registered. If you do not register for this service you cannot pay for any additional vehicles other than the one you have registered. You can only pay for your congestion charge by SMS on the day you are going to travel. You cannot pay in advance for future trips across the congestion zone.

      How to pay using your mobile. Once you have registered paying is simple and straight forward, simply text the last four digits of your nominated credit or debit card number to 81099. Around 30 minutes later your will receive a receipt message that will contain your registration number, payment and receipt number. You can check the status of your payments by logging onto your account at the cclondon website.

      If you wish to pay for another vehicle that you have registered simply send an SMS with the vehicle registration number typed after the last four digits of you credit/debit number. Remember to always check after you pay your congestion charge by SMS for the payment receipt sent to your mobile, this is your only proof that you have paid your charge.
