How to Pay the Congestion Charge Online

The Congestion Charging Zone was set up to reduce traffic levels in central London and in 2007 it was extended into west London. Any drivers entering the zone between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday must pay the charge. Luckily there are several ways to do so; the easiest of which is to pay online before you leave home.

Your vehicle registration number
A credit or debit card
Pen and paper

Instructions

  Collect your vehicle registration number, the date(s) you want to travel into the Congestion Zone and your credit or debit card details.

  Go to the Congestion Charge page on the Transport for London website and click on the "Pay Charge" option.

  Enter your date(s) of travel into the zone and your vehicle registration number.

  Enter your credit or debit card details.

  Review the Data Protection information.

  Get your Payment Confirmation. Be sure to write down your receipt number. You can also request a copy of the receipt to be sent to you.

  Travel into the Congestion Charging Zone on the specified date(s). Cameras will capture your vehicle registration number as you enter the zone and this will automatically be matched up with your payment.
