How to Locate the Serial Number on Mobile Homes

Whether you are looking to purchase, repair or sell your mobile home, locating the serial number can help determine the manufacturer information. The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) informs that mobile homes, constructed after June 1976, are required to have serial numbers printed in specific areas in and outside of the unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the serial number in the foremost cross beam of the mobile home. The serial number will include a series of numbers and letters than span no more than 3/8 of an inch in height.

    • 2

Find the partial serial number of the mobile home in the front steel portion of the chassis. The front of the chassis is the side of the home where the latch is located.

    • 3

Go inside the mobile home and find the data plate which includes manufacturer information such as name and address of manufacturing plant, date of manufacture and the manufacturer serial number. Common locations for the data plate are visible locations such as the master bedroom closet door, kitchen cabinet or behind any utility room door.
