How Do I Locate the Canadian Border?

The United States and Canada have the longest common border, (5,525 miles) shared between only two countries, in the world. According to the Embassy of the United States of America, there are 140 border crossings accessible by land vehicles, although some are obscure and not all of them are open 24 hours a day. When locating the border crossing you decide to take, think about what you would like to see on your road trip before and after you leave the United States.

Look at an online or print copy of a North American road map to plan your driving route and decide where you would like to cross into Canada. Select the border crossing closest to your hometown if you want to travel across part of Canada or choose the border crossing closest to your Canadian destination if you want to take a partial U.S. road trip. Alternatively, you can cross the border halfway between your hometown and Canadian destination to travel across part of the United States and part of Canada.
