Review the list of the items you are bringing into Canada. Include goods packed in checked suitcases as well as in pockets and hand luggage.
Fill in preliminary information on the declaration card: name, date of birth, citizenship, home address, flight information, and purpose of visit. Up to four persons living at the same address may be listed on one card. (See References 2, 3)
Look over the list of restricted items on the declaration. Included are weapons, commercial goods, currency, food items and all plant and animal products. Mark a category "yes" if you are carrying any of the class of items. Alternatively, throw away any prohibited items in the bin provided for that purpose. (See References 2)
Review the list of duty free allowances for gifts, cigarettes and alcohol. Respond "yes" to Part B on the declarations form, if anyone traveling in your party exceeds those allowances. (See References 3)
Sign the card, certifying that the declaration is true and complete. Ask every person over the age of 16 whose name is listed on the card to sign. Date the card.
Answer any questions the customs agents have about your declared items. Be prepared to show them to an agent. Open your luggage if asked to do so. Declared items that are prohibited will be confiscated without penalty. (See References 2)
