Search the Internet for ride-share programs in your area. Whatever your location, there will be sites that specialize in point-to-point ride postings by drivers seeking accompaniment. Most of these sites are free and require only membership or nothing at all. In large cities there may also be free posting sites that provide a space in which you can match up with fellow travelers of all kinds and head for all destinations.
Visit the E Rideshare, a website that lists all available rides split into four categories: Daily Carpools, Cross-Country Travel, Errands-Medical-Shopping-Airport, and Employers-Schools-Events-Religious-Clubs-Parents. Under these categories you will be able to customize the rides to your departure zip code and desired destination. You may have to begin your journey at the nearest large city, as the selection is not always great.
Visit Craigslist for your city and search under the Services: Travel/Vacation heading. Here you will find a collection of rides going to destinations of all sorts and departing from the Craigslist page home town. Since there are versions of Craigslist in countries all around the world, you should be able to find one near to you. These listings are free, and you can inquire with as many drivers or groups as you wish.
Have a conversation with your potential travel group and feel them out. Make sure you all have the same idea and itinerary in mind, and make a date for travel. Find out what type of vehicle and seating arrangements there are, and ask about the baggage limits. Do your research on potential stops or sites along the way and bring a good attitude.
If you are still unable to find a suitable ride share, visit Ride-Share Directory, which lists every ride-share outlet in the United States.
