How to Find Railroad Tracks

Check a map of your town or city and look for symbols of railroad tracks.

Access online map sites like Mapquest or Google Maps and enter your address. Scroll out to expand the map view until you see signs of railroad tracks. Once you see some, you can click on them and zoom to their location.

Call Amtrak at 1-800-872-7245 and ask if they have train tracks near you. Amtrak is the operator of all passenger railroad service in the United States. They can help you locate the closest tracks and stations in your area.

Drive around your town or city in search of railroad crossings. A lot of freight is transported via rail so even if a passenger train doesn't run near you, you may be able to locate freight tracks.
