Visit the "Realtor" site shown in the resources section to find national properties for sale or long-term rental properties on the waterfront. From the home page, click "Advanced Search", then select "Lot and Community." Enable all options related to waterfront properties, then enter remaining criteria in the other search areas.
Visit the "Zip Realty" site shown in the resources section as another option to find national properties for sale on the waterfront. At the bottom of the page, click "Show" in the Additional Property Features section. Enable the options related to water views.
Visit the "Homeaway" site shown in the resources section to find vacation rentals on the water. Select the state you want. Select "Waterfront Rentals" from the location type.
Visit "Bed and Breakfast Inns Online" in the resources section as another option to find vacation rentals on the water. Choose the general state and area you want. Most states here will display areas by lake, river or oceanfront (though there is no built-in search for such); for example, in the Austin area you can choose "Lake Travis."
Obtain the property address from the site or the bed and breakfast owner before you book it. Use an online map such as maps.google.com or yahoo maps to validate that the property is on the waterfront.
