What demographic transition stage is Norway?
Norway is currently in Stage 4 of the demographic transition model. This stage is characterised by low birth rates and low death rates, leading to a slow or even declining population growth. Norway's total fertility rate (TFR) is currently estimated to be 1.56 children per woman, which is below the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman. This means that the country's population is not replacing itself through natural reproduction. At the same time, Norway has a relatively low mortality rate, with an estimated crude death rate of 7.5 deaths per 1,000 people. This means that the population is not shrinking significantly due to deaths. Consequently, Norway's population growth rate is slow, and the country is projected to experience a gradual decline in its population size in the coming decades.
