How cold is it in the abyssal zone?

The abyssal zone is the deepest region of the ocean extending from around 4000 meters to the bottom of the ocean. The temperature in this zone is extremely cold and it can reach freezing point or lower. The average temperature in the abyssal zone ranges between 2⁰C to 4⁰C.
