Yugoslavia was a socialist state located in Southeast Europe that existed from 1945 until its dissolution in 1992. The country was composed of six constituent republics: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
During the 1990s, ethnic tensions between the Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo escalated into violent conflict. The Kosovo War lasted from 1998 to 1999 and resulted in the deaths of an estimated 10,000 people. In 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, but this declaration has not been recognized by all countries.
