What was the movement for return of Jews to Palestine?

The movement for the return of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland in Palestine is known as Zionism. It originated in the late 19th century as a response to growing anti-Semitism in Europe and the desire to establish a Jewish state. The movement gained momentum in the early 20th century, culminating in the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
