The origin of property rating in nigeria?

Property rating in Nigeria has its roots in the colonial era. The first attempt at property rating in Nigeria was made in 1903 by the colonial government in Lagos. The Lagos Rate Ordinance of 1903 was enacted to impose rates on landed property within the Lagos colony.

Following the success of the Lagos experiment, several other cities in Nigeria adopted property rating systems. For instance, the Kano Assessment Proclamation of 1917 introduced property rating in Kano State.

Over the years, property rating has become a significant source of revenue for local governments in Nigeria. Today, all states in Nigeria have their respective property rating laws.
