Why is the World in Dubai being constructed?

The World is not being constructed in Dubai. The World is an artificial archipelago located off the coast of Dubai, UAE. It was created by Nakheel Properties and consists of 300 artificial islands, each shaped like a different country. The World was initially intended to be a luxury residential development, but the project was stalled due to the global financial crisis of 2008. As of 2021, only a few of the islands have been developed.
