Most of Bali's economy is centered on tourism and as a traveller you are a potential customer for the many street hawkers and touts. As hard as it may be, ignore them and don't make eye contact no matter how pleasant they may seem. Don't feign interest in their goods just to be polite. They are trying to make a living and this is wasting their time.
