Kiawah Island Information

Kiawah Island, a barrier island near the historic city of Charleston, S.C., is one of the United States most popular destination for golfers. With five award-winning golf courses snuggled amidst white, sandy beaches, it offers visitors a variety of recreational activities.

  1. History

    • In 1675, Kiawah Indians traded the island for cloth, hatchets and other goods with English sailors-possibly reformed pirates. It wasn't until a real estate developer purchased the island in 1974 that it found its niche as a resort destination.
