How large is Tibet?

The Tibet Autonomous Region is the second-largest provincial-level division in China, after the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, with a total area of 1.22 million square kilometers (471 thousand square miles). It stretches about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from east to west and 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) from north to south. The region shares a border with the provinces of Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, and Yunnan in China and with the countries of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Burma.
