Information on Kings Canyon, Australia

Kings Canyon, which is part of Watarrka National Park in Northern Territory, Australia, is about 279 miles from Alice Springs and is the biggest attraction in the park. The canyon has walls that are nearly 1,000 feet high. In addition, parts of the canyon are sacred Aboriginal sites.
  1. Walking Trails

    • There are two walking trails of interest in the canyon. The Kings Canyon trail is well marked with signs pointing out Aboriginal culture. This trail is good for families or those with mobility issues and is about 3 1/4 miles long. The second trail, The Kings Creek Trail, is for experienced, healthy hikers due to its steep sections, and is just over 1 1/2 miles.

    Camping

    • Camping with tents, motor homes or recreational vehicles is not permitted in the park. However, nearby resorts such as Kings Canyon Resort and Kings Creek Station offer lodging and campground facilities.

    Guided Tours

    • Guided Ranger tours are available from early May to late September. The tour called Creek Life Rocks gives you the opportunity to learn about the creek, natural features and wildlife of the canyon.
