David Thompson and Aboriginal Peoples

British-Canadian explorer David Thompson (1770–1857) spent over 25 years living and trading with Indigenous communities—primarily Cree, Dene, Assiniboine, and Blackfoot. He learned their languages, earned their trust, and relied on their knowledge to map vast western Canadian territories. Thompson documented their traditions and territories, showing deep respect for their cultures.
