How to Visit Butchart Gardens in Canada

Vancouver Island in Canada is home to the beautiful Butchart Gardens, a 55-acre environment for flower lovers of all ages. Started by Jennie Butchart in the early 1900s at the family home and nearby depleted limestone quarry, the gardens soon grew into a tourist attraction by the 1920s. Use these directions to visit this blooming attraction.

      Head up to Victoria Island, Canada. The Butchart Gardens are located on Brentwood Bay at 800 Benvenuto Avenue and easily accessible from Washington State and the mainland of British Columbia.

      Make reservations at one of the many local hotels that offer packages including visits to the gardens. The Gazebo Bed and Breakfast & Brentwood Bay Lodge & Spa are both less than a 10-minute drive. There are quite a few more area accommodations less than 30 minutes away, including The Royal Scot Suite Hotel, Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour and Lord Nelson Bed & Breakfast.

      Purchase tickets ahead of time online or wait until arriving at the gardens. Get a season pass if planning to visit more than once within the same year as it saves money. Parking is free.

      Stroll through the 55-acre gardens. This walk takes about 2 hours. Bring the little ones and their strollers. Butchart Gardens is child friendly, complete with changing areas and plenty of benches for resting.

      Enjoy something to eat while visiting the gardens. The Dining Room Restaurant serves afternoon tea all year with lunch and dinner served seasonally. The Blue Poppy Restaurant is open seasonally and offers cafeteria-style service. The Coffee Shop serves light fare all year.
