How to Renew Your SIN Card

A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a number issued in Canada by the Human Resources and Social Development Canada. SIN numbers allow you to participate in various government programs. The number is also used as a national identification number. Normally, SINs do not expire. However, if you were issued a SIN and you are neither a permanent resident nor a Canadian citizen, your SIN is issued with an expiration date. You need to renew your SIN before the expiration date that appears on the SIN card.
