How to Get to Whistler, Canada, From Vancouver, Canada

Located 127 km north of Vancouver in British Colombia, Whistler is a popular tourist destination. It is perhaps best known for it's famous ski resort and village. Vancouver is Whistler's nearest city, at just over 2 hours drive away. It is from Vancouver that the vast majority of travellers will arrive.

      Book a flight. There are 35 minute floatplane flights that run during spring, summer and fall. In winter, the lake used for landing freezes over. Prices for a return journey start from $318, plus 5% local tax per person, as of November 2010.

      If money is no object, then helicopter flights are also available to book. These take 30 minutes and they are available year- round. Prices start at $2800 and a maximum of 5 people can travel.

      Book a train ticket. For example, the Whistler Sea to Sky Train is 3.5 hours and takes in breathtaking scenery enroute. However, this service generally only runs from April to October. So be sure to check availability prior to booking. Prices typically start at $130 per person. Some services include the option of spending a night in a local hotel and doing some additional sightseeing along the way.

      Rent a car. It takes approximately 2 hours to drive the 79 miles from Vancouver to Whistler. The journey can be easily broken up over the course of a couple of days, if desired. This may well be a preferable option if there is limited or even a non-existent train service. Prices for a 3 day car rental start at around $322.

      Book a bus ticket. There are several shuttle buses that operate from Whistler to Vancouver. Bus companies, such as Greyhound, provide a service on this route. Prices start at around $22 per person. The journey takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes.

      Book a taxi. A further option is to hire a "limo" or shared van, which is driven by someone else. This may be a viable choice if travelling as part of a group. Prices begin at $80 per hour for 4 people in a sedan style car. Larger vehicles can be hired for around $200 per hour, which can seat up to 20 people.
