Things to Do Indoors in Vancouver

Known for its natural beauty and comparatively mild climate, Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada. Although temperatures in Vancouver rarely drop below freezing, the city does see its fair share of rain, approximately 44 inches annually.   1. Vancouver Art Gallery

    • The Vancouver Art Gallery houses more than 10,000 artworks, many of which are contributions from native artists. Works range from historical to contemporary in nature and are drawn from the gallery's permanent collection, as well as borrowed from other institutions.

      As of September, 2010, current and upcoming exhibitions include Kerry James Marshall; Bearing Witness: Works from the Collection and In Dialogue with Carr: Douglas Coupland, Evan Lee, Liz Magor, Marianne Nicolson.

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts a number of public events throughout the year including lectures, artist talks, performances and family programs. The gallery also offers free guided tours every Thursday and Sunday.

      As of September, 2010, admission to the gallery ranges from free to $22.50.

    Science World at Telus World of Science

    • Science World at Telus World of Science features exhibits, shows, events and programs all aimed at facilitating scientific education. The museum includes six galleries that feature exhibits, interactive games, puzzles and videos, among other items.

      The museum's Centre Stage features live demonstrations and shows of scientific principles and phenomena. The museum also includes two theatres: the Science Theatre and an Omnimax Theatre, the world's second largest screen.

      As of September, 2010, Science World's price of admission ranges from $11 to $26.50. There are also additional fees associated with entering the Omnimax theater.

    Vancouver Opera

    • Founded in 1958, the Vancouver Opera is Canada's second largest opera company. Opera productions take place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and as of September, 2010, upcoming performances include Lillian Alling; Lucia di Lammermoor; La Clemenza di Tito and La Traviata.

      The Vancouver Opera also hosts educational opportunities, including a creative program for teachers, dress rehearsal tickets and a backstage experience for students.

      Ticket prices for Vancouver Opera performances vary depending on the selected performance and seating.
