The Greater Vancouver Zoo was founded in 1970 with the arrival of a llama named Dennis. Since then, the zoo has added dozens of different animal species, including camels, arctic wolves, eagles, hippopotamuses and zebras. The zoo is open year-round, and offers a variety of activities for children and adults alike. Those who visit during the afternoon can witness the daily lion and tiger feedings, while a vast picnic area is provided for people looking for a place to eat during their visit. The National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks are one of the only professional sports teams in the city. The Canucks play in Rogers Arena, a 475,000-square-foot facility located in downtown Vancouver. The building hosted the 2010 Olympic men's and women's hockey tournaments, making it an intriguing tourist attraction on its own. The Canucks play more than 40 home games each season, which begins in October and wraps up in April. The Vancouver Aquarium, located north of the downtown core in spacious Stanley Park, is the largest aquarium in Canada. More than 35 million people have visited the facility since it opened in 1956. It is home to more than 70,000 animals, making it a popular spot for field trips and family visits. Travelers can encounter a number of different sea creatures face-to-face, including dolphins, sea otters, beluga whales and sea lions.
