Where does a Chilean Sea Bass Live?

The Chilean sea bass (Dissostichus eleginoides) is found in the Southern Hemisphere oceans. It is a deep-sea fish, living closer to the surface as a juvenile and moving to deeper waters as it matures. It is primarily found in the waters around Antarctica, including near the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and the Kerguelen Islands, as well as in the Southern Ocean south of Australia and New Zealand. It is also found in the southeastern Pacific, including around Chile and Peru, and near South Africa and Namibia in the Atlantic. It is usually found at depths of 2,000 to 2,600 feet, but has been recorded as deep as 4,900 feet.
