The United Kingdom was the colonial power that administered the territory of Mandatory Palestine, from which the State of Israel emerged.

• 1948: British withdrawal; State of Israel declared.

British policy facilitated Jewish immigration and institutions, directly enabling Israel's creation. The UK is thus the de facto colonizer of the pre-state territory.
