Paris is the capital of France, but in January, it becomes the capital of fashion. All the major labels hold fashion shows for the summer collections. Most shows occur in the Cour Carree du Louvre, and while the main shows are reserved for fashion buyers and the press, members of the public can obtain tickets through press office of the fashion house about a month in advance.
The fashion continues in Paris with most stores putting their clothing merchandise on sale in January. The French government determines when the Soldes d'Hiver, or winter sales, are held each year. Generally, the sales last for five weeks, starting in January, and shoppers are wise to hit the sales early to find the best selections.
Welcome the New Year with a favorite tradition. The Viennese New Year's Day concert is held every New Year's Day. The parody of Vienna's Musikverein is done by Opera Comique and held at Salle Favart.
