From December through early March, Amsterdam natives and visitors can visit the Museum Quarter of Museumplein, located just south of Leidseplein, where a public ice skating rink draws novices and experts to skate across an ice-covered plaza. Ice skating is free for patrons and the museum square is lit at night, providing an outdoor activity for the frost-bitten city of Amsterdam in February. Local vendors serve signature refreshments like Dutch hot chocolate and Dutch miniature pancakes called Poffertjes in the surrounding plaza.
