Paris Night Life Attractions

When night falls in Paris, the city seems to get an extra burst of energy. Cafés become thronged with people, bars and clubs illuminate their brilliant neon signs, and there's a general feeling of anticipation in the air as the streets fill with party-goers and pleasure-seekers. The City of Lights offers much by the way of nightlife, including discos, jazz clubs, theaters, bars and cabarets.
  1. Lido

    • The Lido is a world-famous cabaret that has been delighting audiences since 1946. Located on the Champs-Elysees avenue, the 1,150-seat nightclub has featured a host of famous entertainers, from Laurel & Hardy to Elton John. These days, it stages a 90-minute revue twice daily, featuring sparkly costumed, high-kicking dancers known as The Bluebell Girls. There are male dancers as well, but the Bluebell Girls stand out in most people's memories, probably because many of them dance topless. Despite the partial nudity, the show is considered tasteful and acceptable for children over the age 4. Tickets for adults run between €80 and €165, depending on the hour of the performance and whether dinner is included.

    New Morning

    • Jazz aficionados will have a wonderful time in Paris, as there are many jazz clubs with quality musicians from which to choose. One of the most popular jazz clubs is New Morning, which is known for being a large club (it sits 300) with an intimate feel. New Morning is nothing swanky--there are only wooden folding chairs and small tables--but nobody goes for the décor, just the excellence of the music. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance because ticket lines for certain concerts can be very long. Admission prices are usually around €10.

    Café Charbon

    • This café has long reigned as one of the hippest spots in Paris. The popularity of the café/bar/restaurant likely comes from its spacious, 19th century-esque interior, the fact you can order anything on the menu both day and night, and its location on the trendy rue Oberkampf. The café wisely opened up a nightclub named Club Nouveau just next door to the restaurant, so you don't have to travel far to party after dinner.

    Le Queen Club

    • Twenty years after its opening, Le Queen is still one of the most popular places to dance in Paris. While it is primarily a gay club, everyone is welcome on most nights--particularly on Wednesdays, which is ladies' night. Almost every evening has a different musical theme: disco on Mondays, house music on Tuesdays, '90s music on Thursdays, and electric-house on Fridays and Saturdays. The DJs that spin there are some of the most famous in the world.
