Instructions

  1. Relocating to the Czech Republic

    • 1

Plan on anywhere between three and six months for the processing time, including the preparation of the documents. You won’t be able to just pick up and leave tomorrow.

    • 2

Find a job. This is a prerequisite to obtaining a Czech residence permit. The permit application requires a home and workplace address. Numerous general and professional job search websites allow you to research and apply for positions in the Czech job market.

    • 3

Secure a job that also offers to take care of visa requirements, help find an apartment and provide other relocation assistance. Salaries in the Czech Republic average about $1,000 per month. The cost of living is lower there, so prepare to accept lower wages than you’re earning now.

    • 4

Download necessary application forms from the Czech embassy website. Other documentation you will need includes the following:-A valid passport and birth certificate.-Work contract (to be provided by your employer).-Four passport-size photos.-Documentation proving sufficient financial resources to support yourself while living in the Czech Republic.-Documentation pertaining to your accommodations in the Czech Republic (such as a lease).-Signed and notarized affidavit that confirms you haven't ever been indicted or sentenced for a felony.

    • 5

Organize these documents as clearly as possible. The Czech immigration bureaucracy is rigorous and meticulous about documents. You will need to have them photocopied, translated into Czech and notarized. Also provide a notarized copy of your work contract and your lease in Czech.

Remember that round-trip airline tickets are cheaper when you make your travel arrangements. Consider flights to England, and then England to Prague or Brno (the Czech Republic's second-largest city), which can sometimes be cheaper. Budget for at least $800 to $1,200 per person for air travel.
