Daylight is longer with only a few hours of night at some seasonal periods. Its temperate climate allows for summer temperatures averaging 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • Whether the summer holiday is in the mountains or the coast, vacation rentals provide an option for accommodations. The rentals can be found to fit any group size and is most popular in Sweden during June, July and August. An indoor pool is one of the amenities offered at some of the properties. Western Sweden's Strömstad is one of the top areas for summer rentals. Fulufjället National Park, near the Norwegian border, offers cabins as well as numerous activities like horse back riding.

    Trains

    • The Inland Railway is the main railway of Sweden and features over 800 miles of track throughout the country. Tours take place during the summer with various themes. One of the tours covers parts of Sweden that are less populated and features smaller cities. Each night, the guests stay at destinations including Ostersund. Another tour takes passengers to the Lapland area of Sweden with extra bus excursions to see Sami culture. Guests can view reindeer and elk among the dense forests.

    Cruises

    • Swedish cruises venture around coastal areas but also go to the Gota Canal between Stockholm and Gothenburg. Ships making the week long trip through the canal are from the 1800s. Prices include a room, food and excursions from the ship such as museums. Larger cruise ships along the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia's coastlines cover cities in each region that balance modern amenities with historical details. Excursions from the ships visit area theme parks and nature parks.

    Islands

    • Islands dot the coast of Sweden and require a special boat or ferry to reach each one. Tours are available for the area or visitors can make their own travel plans. Some islands do not allow cars. Koster Islands opened the first Marine National Park in 2009. Visitors to the island have access to bike rentals, villages and museums. Fresh seafood caught daily is on the menu of eating establishments. Recreational activities available include hiking.

    Theme Parks

    • The Oland Zoo and Amusement Park in southern Sweden features animals as well as rides. Northern Sweden's Furuviksparken is another zoo that offers activities and rides. Inland, children may enjoy Astrid Lindgren's World based on the books of the author like "Pippi Longstocking."
