Comlongon Castle

• The ghost of the Green Lady, thought to be Marion Carruthers' spirit, is said to roam the restored 15th century Comlongon Castle, now a luxurious hotel near Gretna in Scotland.

  Distressed to the point of madness, Marion in 1570 allegedly threw herself from the castle's battlements and was never given a Christian burial. Looking for a proper resting place, her ghost has often been seen wandering the castle.

  Displays of medieval armor and weapons as well as modern jacuzzis adorn the 14 luxury en-suite bedrooms. Set on 120 acres of manicured lawns, ponds, paddocks and woodlands, the Castle is considered one of the finest preserved examples of a Scottish border stronghold.

Auchen Castle

• The ghosts in this 13th century castle hotel are regularly witnessed by guests. Just over the border from England in Scotland, the Auchen Castle Hotel has 15 rooms in the original castle and 10 rooms in the lodge overlooking the private trout loch.

  In addition to visits by medieval ghosts, guests are treated to the castle's own 12-year old malt whiskey, clay pigeon shooting and quad bike riding on its spacious grounds. Visits to nearby Glasgow and Edinburgh also can be arranged.

The Olde Post Inn

• The Olde Post Inn near Crawford in Scotland was built around 1744. It is said to be haunted by the Jacobite soldiers who were hung in the woods around the inn. However, it is usually the ghost of a young girl who is heard speaking or singing in the dining area of the inn.

  The girl's identity is unknown, but she is thought to be the daughter of a previous landlord of the inn who suffered a tragic accident in or near the present dining hall.

  This is one of the oldest inns in Scotland and it has six en-suite double rooms. Its restaurant was acclaimed best restaurant outside of Dublin in 2006 by the Dubliner magazine.
