Rail Tours of Switzerland

Switzerland's rail network provides efficient transportation through some of the most scenic areas of the country. Rail tours in Switzerland offer a method of transportation that allows travelers to take in the country's natural beauty. Swiss trains have cars featuring large panoramic windows for better viewing. Schedules for each tour are subject to change; check the timetables early. Purchasing tickets in Switzerland for rail tours is cheaper than buying them in the United States; tickets can be purchased from any Swiss rail station.

    • The Glacier Express is considered the most popular rail tour in Switzerland. The train tour consists of seven and a half hours of scenery, ranging from mountains and rivers to luxurious spas and historic villages. The "Express" title of the tour is misleading; this is one of the longer rail tours in Switzerland. The Glacier Express remains known for its ride throughout the picturesque Swiss Alps. Trains run daily through winter and several times in the summer. Local trains often cover shorter segments of the tour for those who want a shorter trip.
