In the northern part of Brazil, volcanic rocks are found in the Borborema Province, which extends from the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte to the state of Bahia. The rocks in this province are mostly of alkaline composition and include basalts, trachytes, and phonolites.
Besides these two main volcanic provinces, there are also isolated occurrences of volcanic rocks in other parts of Brazil, such as the state of Minas Gerais and the state of Goiás.
