Discovered in 1960, the Las Choyas geode deposit in Chihuahua, Mexico is now home to a large geode mine. While it has a variety of geode types, the area is primarily known for its agates and amethysts. The mine is located on the Mesteño Ranch. Geodes from the Las Choyas deposit are exported around the world and can be purchased from the comfort of a store or online. However, many people go yearly to collect them on location.
Also located in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, La Naica mine is a giant geode with huge white selenite crystals. These structures are known to be the largest crystals of any kind in the world. While small geodes can't exactly be collected here, tourists still go to look at the giant underground crystals.
