Tijuana Nightclubs

Just 16 miles from San Diego, Tijuana is a popular tourist stop for tourists looking to buy items like woven blankets, silver jewelry and terra cotta pottery at bargain prices. At night, the attraction of Tijuana changes focus to its many nightclubs and bars. College students too young to drink legally in the United States can enjoy adult beverages south of the border, where the drinking age is 18.
  1. The Rock

    • Baby Rock DJs spin tunes that run the gamut from hip hop to rock.

      The Rock, still called Baby Rock by some locals, is in the Zona Ria neighborhood of Tijuana. According to a Frommer's review, "the most popular dance club is Baby Rock...which features everything from Latin rock to rap. It's open from 9pm to 3am, with a cover charge of $12 on Saturdays." The Rock offers table service, too.

    Coko Bongo

    • Cold beer is alwayss available at Coko Bongo.

      Of Coko Bongo, the Tijuana Mexico Insider says, "Watch dancing and sports on several plasma TVs and enjoy a cold beer on one of the open terraces." More wild times are possible at Coko Bongo, though, considering it has an open bar, table service and VIP areas of the club for those who want some private time with friends.

    Balak

    • Dancers at Balak groove to music pumping from its multi-million dollar sound system.

      Balak is a 10-minute walk from the border, and the building is designed to look like a Mayan temple. "Balak is Tijuana's biggest, loudest, most state-of-the-art disco, featuring international DJs, a multi-million-dollar sound system, wildly festooned performance dancers and an always-packed dance floor," according to Lonely Planet. It cost $12 to get in the door.

    Tangaloo Club

    • The Tangaloo offers live music and DJs.

      The Tangaloo Club opened in 2001 and features DJs spinning an assortment of music, live bands and even comedy on some nights. The Tangaloo keeps its guests guessing, as it has a changing theme every Saturday night. It's one of the biggest dance clubs in the city.

    Las Pulgas

    • Las Pulgas attracts a young mix of tourists and locals.

      Las Pulgas is known for its large dance floor and mixture of locals and tourists. Dancers start packing the club around 10 p.m. The Tangaloo attracts a young crowd, between 18 and 25-years-old. Lonely Planet likes its variety, saying, "Pop in the earplugs and grab a dance partner--Las Pulgas showcases everything from live and recorded banda (brass-band with vocals) and norteña (country style) music to cumbia and merengue."
