New Zealand Weather Stations

The country of New Zealand in the South Pacific consists of the North Island and the South Island. New Zealand attracts many tourists year-round, and weather conditions are important for anyone taking part in outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, white-water rafting, sailing and bungee-jumping. Many weather stations around the country are run voluntarily and make weather data available online.
  1. St Albans, Christchurch

    • St Albans is a district of Christchurch on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. The weather station is run by Mareesa Danielle and Kristine Margaret and uses a Davis 6163 Vantage Pro2 weather station which records data received from a rain collector, Ultra Violet (UV) sensor, humidity sensor and a temperature sensor. Data displayed on the weather station's web page is updated every 60 minutes and shows the current temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, UV index, wind speed and direction and rainfall in millimeters per hour.

    Kerikeri

    • Kerikeri is a small town in the Bay of Islands in the northeast of the North Island. The region is a popular tourist destination and enjoys a sub-tropical climate. The weather station is located above a ridge, some three miles north of the town, and uses a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station, receiving data from a rain gauge, UV sensor and an anemometer (wind speed indicator) to update the station's web page. The web page is updated every 15 minutes. The home page includes current weather information including rainfall, temperature, UV index and lightning strike frequency.

    Hawkes Bay

    • Hawkes Bay is on the eastern coast of the North Island, and the Hawkes Bay weather station is located in the town of Puketapu. The weather station consists of an Oregon Scientific WM-918, collating information from an anemometer placed on a 50-foot mast and temperature and humidity sensors placed in a screened location at ground level. Current rainfall is measured using a tilting-bucket device, linked to the weather station. Data is uploaded to the "Weather Underground" network and can be accessed via a dedicated Weather Underground web page.
