One of the most fascinating and historic boardwalks you'll find anywhere, Ocean City's boardwalk boasts two and a half miles of stores, restaurants, gift shops, games, amusement rides, huge craft shows, antique auto shows, music and art events and an annual baby parade that's been going on for 100 years. Ocean City prides itself on its reputation as a "family resort," so you won't find any alcoholic beverages on the boardwalk, nor in the entire town: no liquor stores, taverns or bars. While strolling along the boardwalk, you can see some of Ocean City's beautiful architecture and gorgeous Victorian homes.
The Ocean City Music Pier on the Boardwalk holds many cultural events throughout the year, including the Ocean City Pops Orchestra and the annual Miss New Jersey contest (for the Miss America Pageant). The Music Pier is romantically perched right on top of the Atlantic Ocean, with a breath-taking view!
In July, the annual Merchants in Venice Seafood Festival brings thousands of people to feast on some of the best seafood in New Jersey, and to enjoy entertainment and rides for the kids. The annual Night in Venice boat parade is one of the largest in the world, with bayfront homeowners decorating their docks, as a parade of boats winds its way through the back bay harbor.
Ocean City's Asbury Avenue shopping district is lined with interesting and different shops and restaurants, open all year long. More than 100 stores, mostly family-owned, are unlike those you'll find in any shopping mall, with everything from antique shops to art galleries to the latest apparel. Enjoy the aroma of donuts and pastries being made, as well as delectable chocolate candy.
For more than 80 years, Gillian's Wonderland Pier on the Boardwalk has thrilled young and old with dozens of amusement rides for all ages. Anchored by a huge 140-foot-tall Ferris wheel, which can be seen from miles around and offers a view of the city and surrounding communities, some of the many family-oriented amusement rides include the MonoRail, Tilt-A-Whirl, Swings, Canyon Falls Log Flume, Runaway Train Coaster, Skooter Bumper Cars, Kite Flyer, Alien Invasion, and many rides especially for little children.
The Ocean City Arts Center complex houses a huge library, museum and arts center, with music and art classes available for all ages year-round.
