How to See Snow in Celebration, Florida

Celebration, Fla., is a town near Disney World that was originally developed by the Walt Disney Co. It's a fun place to visit at any time of the year, but if you come during the period between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve you'll see a special treat: a snowfall in Florida. Even though the snow isn't genuine, it's fun to run through the snowflakes between palm trees while wearing a T-shirt.

Visit on an evening from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year's Eve. The snowfall in downtown Celebration usually starts on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and runs through the New Year's Eve event. The snowfall takes place hourly between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. every day, so be sure to come to town during those hours.

Stake out a spot in the downtown area. The snowfall takes place on Market Street, which is in the heart of Celebration's downtown shopping district. Take the 417 tollway to Celebration Avenue and follow the avenue to Market Street. Alternately, take I-4 to 192 east and turn right onto Celebration Avenue, then follow it to Market Street. Free parking is available in several lots downtown.

As the hour approaches, stake out a spot under one of the snow machines. These machines are attached to the light poles lining Market Street. Every hour on the hour from 6 to 9 p.m. they will create a snowfall for several minutes while carols play. When the snowfall starts, the crowd on the street will quickly expand, so you need to take your place early if you want to be right in the middle of the "blizzard."

Allow enough time to enjoy the other events. While the snowfall is the biggest draw, there are usually other holiday activities, such as strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides and a cottage where Santa Claus himself greets visitors. When you plan your visit to Celebration, allow an hour or two to enjoy those activities, browse through the shops, and perhaps even dine at one of the downtown restaurants.
