Three States at the Ohio-Mississippi River Confluence

Where the Rivers Meet

The Ohio River joins the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois. This confluence brings together three states:

• Illinois (east bank of the Mississippi)
• Kentucky (south bank of the Ohio)
• Missouri (west bank of the Mississippi)

Cairo sits at the southern tip of Illinois, directly at this tri-state junction.
